Having Hope At Home
by David S. Craig
A sidesplitting look at a family learning to love again. On a winter night in a drafty farmhouse a baby is about to arrive. A very pregnant Carolyn is determined to bring her family back together before the birth of her first child. In this multi-generational comedy that has charmed audiences across the country, modern medicine meets midwifery head-on in a torrent of family feuding and as tensions begin to rise, so does the laughter! It will take a baby to heal the rift in this funny, heart-warming story of forgiveness and hope.
Anyone interested in acting or the production end of things should contact Larry Aquino. Auditions will start week of August 8 and rehearsals week of August 23

Changes for the New Year
January 5th, 2010
The Board of the Classic Theatre regrets to announce the resignation of Angela Drainville-Ashick from the position of General Manager. Ms. Drainville-Ashick has accepted a position with the Gibson Theatre in Alliston and we wish her all the best in this new endeavour.
At this time, the General Manager position will be left vacant, and the Theatre will be run by volunteers and a few part-time staff members. This staffing change will not affect the remaining scheduled performances for this season.
The Board wishes to remind members of the public that in order to sustain a vibrant, viable theatre, members of the community must purchase tickets. The Board’s wish is to continue to provide south Temiskaming with quality professional shows and will continue to do so, provided the public demonstrates its appreciation by attending the Theatre in greater numbers than it has in recent months. Everyone interested in supporting the Classic Theatre should consider purchasing tickets for one or more of the upcoming shows:
Big band /jazz ensemble, Manteca, on Saturday, January 30;
Deric Ruttan, of country music fame, on Tuesday, February 2;
All-star guitar show, featuring Latin, Mediterranean, rock and other guitar styles of Rik Emmett, Pavlo, and Oscar Lopez, on Thursday, February 4.
These shows are in keeping with the Classic Theatre’s commitment to offering high quality entertainment to the area. The Board is hopeful that patrons will sell out each of these shows.
Tickets for all shows are available at Robertson’s in New Liskeard or online at www.classictheatre.net. Box office hours will be limited to show days only but messages may be left at 679-8080. Staff will return your call as quickly as possible.
The remaining shows for the season are distributed in the months of March, April (2 shows), May and July. Additional programming will be considered only after area residents show a greater commitment to the Theatre by attending the remainder of the 2009-2010 season. On the assumption that this will happen, the Board is proactively researching possible shows for the 2010-2011 season.
Interspersed with the professional entertainment series, there are a number of shows highlighting local talent. Temiskaming Live Theatre, which has been absent from the Theatre stage for a couple of years, has requested time to stage a production this spring. The Theatre also expects to host events for ACFO, the Spring Pulse Poetry Festival, Pied Piper and others. More information will be forwarded as soon as available.
Lastly, the Board of Directors is sorry to announce that the stage production of Oliver must be cancelled. The Board was informed by the General Manager, upon receipt of resignation, that the pre-production work was not able to be completed between April, when the Board approved the project, and now. The rights to do the production have not been obtained, nor have the scripts or the musical score. This, in combination with the need to find a new director and producer for the show, makes proceeding unrealistic at this time. With less than two weeks before the planned initiation of the production, it is impossible to obtain the necessary materials and personnel. The Board is truly disappointed that the show cannot proceed as planned.
The Board of the Classic Theatre would like to thank everyone in advance for their anticipated support which will ensure that “there’s always something on stage at the Classic”.
